Ollie is a Principal Lecturer In Advanced Practice & Independent Prescribing at Canterbury Christ Church University. He leads, lectures, and advises on Advanced Practice and Non-Medical Prescribing across the university, with stakeholders, and across the health system, locally and nationally.

 

Ollie has extensive clinical experience as an Acute Care Nurse Consultant, as a site clinical lead and working as a senior clinician within an Emergency & Acute Directorate/Care Group. He has been a Strategic Advanced Practice Lead within two large NHS organisations.

Ollie has undertaken many projects for NHS England (previously Health Education England), focusing on various Workforce, Advanced Clinical Practice and Consultant Practice workstreams related to education, workforce development, capability and clinical competence. He was the National Advanced Practice Credential and Curriculum lead, overseeing curriculum development, credentials and microcredentials across England. Ollie chaired the NHS England and Royal College of Physicians ACP workstream. Previously, Ollie was the Chair of the Royal College of Nursing’s Advanced Nurse Practitioner (ANP) Forum and the organisation’s credentialing team.

 

Ollie is a coach and has supported many senior nurses, AHP’s, doctors, and senior leaders, including associate directors, deputy directors and executives .Ollie is an expert advisor for the National Institute for Health Care Excellence (NICE) regarding acute care and the National Confidential Enquiry into Patient Outcome and Death (NCEPOD). He was part of the guideline advisory and development group creating the Emergency and Acute Medical Care in over 16’s NICE (NG94) guidelines in 2018.

 

Ollie has a passion for the development of Advanced Practice and Independent Prescribing, with a particular focus and expertise on educational development, organisational governance and scope of practice. His PhD explores the boundaries of advanced practice, its scope and the development of practice. Titled “The Edge of Practice”.

 

Ollie is an experienced systems leader with a great interest in the whole systems approach of acute and emergency care, and the development of the workforce. He is a published author on the subject of Advanced Practice within multiple texts and is an international keynote speaker on the subject. Ollie continues to be a national subject matter expert for Advanced Practice.
